Wilson's Creek National Battlefield

The Battle of Wilson's Creek was the first battle to take place west of the Mississippi River. It took place on August 10, 1861. Nathaniel Lyon, the Union general was the first general killed in the Civil War. The battlefield today can be found in Republic, Missouri.
