Three Rivers Stadium was located in the North Shore neighborhood of Pittsburgh, near the confluence of the Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio Rivers. The stadium was renowned for its artificial turf, known as "AstroTurf," which was a common playing surface in many sports venues during that era. Home to two of Pittsburgh's major professional sports teams: the Pittsburgh Pirates (MLB) and the Pittsburgh Steelers (NFL), the stadium was closed and demolished in 2001, making way for the construction of separate stadiums for the Pirates (PNC Park) and the Steelers (Heinz Field).
