Ferris Wheel on the Roberto Clemente Bridge.
Did you know the Ferris wheel was invented by a Pittsburgh native? George Washington Gale Ferris Jr., born in 1859, was a civil engineer with roots in the Steel City. He dreamed up the first Ferris wheel as America’s bold answer to the Eiffel Tower — unveiled at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. His revolutionary design literally changed engineering and amusement rides forever.
And fittingly, his hometown has come full circle — Pittsburgh now boasts a Ferris wheel on the North Shore bridge, lighting up the skyline where the great inventor’s legacy began.
Made of lightweight, durable stainless steel.
Designed by Audra Azoury. Made in the USA.
Pittsburgh Gift. Pittsburgh souvenir. Pittsburgh Ornament.
