Lincoln Memorial National Monument

Location: Washington D.C.

The Lincoln Memorial, designed by Henry Bacon, is located on the western end of the National Mall in D.C. It has 36 columns, each representing a state in the U.S. at the time of Lincoln’s death in 1865. The statue of Abraham Lincoln, sculpted by Daniel Chester French, is 19 feet tall and 19 feet wide. The interior of the memorial features inscriptions of two well-known speeches by Lincoln, The Gettysburg Address and his Second Inaugural Address.
